During the latter half of the nineteenth century, the Belgian Royal Mint in Brussels produced a striking gold coinage that circulated widely across Europe. Struck in 0.900 fine gold, these 20 Francs pieces contain 0.1867 troy ounces of precious metal. They represent a significant era of Belgian monetary history, minted continuously from 1867 to 1882. The obverse of the coin features a detailed profile bust of King Leopold II, facing right, surrounded by his name and title. On the reverse, the design showcases the intricate, crowned royal coat of arms of Belgium. This central heraldic emblem is flanked by the denomination of 20 Francs and the specific year of mintage, while the national motto emphasizing strength through unity encircles the design.
