1867 Indian Head Cent Good

0.0000 troy oz 1867 Good

The 1867 Indian Head Cent offers a fascinating glimpse into the early years of this long-running United States coin series. Struck in Philadelphia during the post-Civil War era, this copper coin represents a transition in American minor coinage, composed of an alloy containing 95 percent copper alongside a 5 percent mixture of tin and zinc. Designed by James B. Longacre, the obverse of the penny features a distinct depiction of Liberty adorned in a traditional Native American feather headdress. On the reverse side, the denomination "ONE CENT" is clearly inscribed, nestled within a decorative wreath that runs along the inner perimeter of the coin. This particular specimen survives in Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that actively circulated in the commerce of the late nineteenth century.
