1867 Indian Head Cent XF

0.0000 troy oz 1867 Extra Fine

This copper penny from 1867 represents a classic era of United States coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, the coin is composed of a traditional alloy containing 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent made of tin and zinc. It survives today in an Extra Fine state of preservation, allowing observers to appreciate the finer details of its nineteenth-century artistry. The front of the coin displays a profile of Liberty, who is depicted wearing a feathered headdress. The word LIBERTY is visible on the band of the headpiece, while the year 1867 is positioned below the portrait. Encircling this central image is the inscription UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. On the reverse side, the denomination ONE CENT is positioned at the center. This text is framed by an ornate wreath. At the top of the wreath sits a shield, while a bundle of arrows secured by a ribbon bow accents the bottom of the design.
