1868 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle MS-62 PCGS

0.9675 troy oz .900 1868 PCGS

In 1868, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of 98,575 gold coins in the twenty-dollar denomination. Today, finding one of these Liberty Double Eagles in a certified Mint State 62 condition offers a rare glimpse into the artistry of nineteenth-century American coinage. Struck from 0.900 fine gold, this substantial piece contains 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal, representing both the industrial scale and the artistic ambitions of its era. The obverse features the classic profile of Liberty, her hair secured with a band clearly inscribed with her name. Below her portrait, the date 1868 is boldly struck. The reverse of the coin bears the national designation, the United States of America, alongside the denominational spelling of twenty dollars as "TWENTY D." It also carries the iconic motto "IN GOD WE TRUST," integrated into the design above the eagle.
