0.0000 troy oz 1868 Very Good

The 1868 Indian Head Cent represents a classic era of American copper coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin is composed of an alloy containing 95 percent copper, with the remaining five percent made of tin and zinc. It survives today in a graded condition of Very Good, showing the honest wear of a coin that likely circulated during the post-Civil War era. Designed by James B. Longacre, the obverse of the penny features a distinct depiction of Liberty wearing a traditional Native American feather headdress, with the date 1868 positioned below the portrait. The reverse of the coin is elegantly simple, displaying the denomination of ONE CENT centered within a protective wreath. This design remains one of the most recognizable and beloved motifs in the history of United States minor coinage.
