In the late 1860s, the United States Mint produced a unique denomination that has since become a fascinating curiosity for modern enthusiasts: the three-cent piece struck in a copper-nickel alloy. The 1869 issue showcases a distinct aesthetic of American coinage from the post-Civil War era, combining utility with classical artistry. The obverse of this coin features a profile of Lady Liberty facing left, her hair bound and adorned with a classic coronet. Encircling her portrait is the legend "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" alongside the clear date of 1869.
