1869 Two Cent Piece AU

0.0000 troy oz 1869 Almost Unc

The 1869 United States two-cent piece represents a short-lived but highly distinctive denomination in American numismatic history. Struck in copper at the Philadelphia Mint, this particular specimen survives in an exceptional Almost Uncirculated state, preserving the fine details of its intricate engraving that often wore away quickly in daily commerce. Designed by James Longacre, the obverse of the coin features a prominent, ornate shield. A lush wreath drapes over the shield, while two arrows cross diagonally behind it, creating a bold and memorable patriotic motif. Above the shield, a scroll displays the early national motto, while the year 1869 is boldly struck at the very bottom. The reverse design focuses on simplicity and clarity. A delicate wreath of wheat or leafy branches circles the center of the coin, enclosing the large denomination. The words indicating the United States of America encircle the entire reverse border, framing the central wreath and denomination in a classic, balanced composition.
