1870 Indian Head Cent VG

0.0000 troy oz 1870 Very Good

The 1870 Indian Head Cent represents a fascinating chapter in the evolution of American copper coinage. Minted in Philadelphia, this one-cent piece is composed of a durable alloy containing 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent consisting of tin and zinc. It survives today in Very Good condition, showing the honest wear of a coin that circulated widely during the late nineteenth century. On the obverse, the design features a profile of Liberty wearing a traditional Native American feather headdress, with the date 1870 clearly visible below the bust. The reverse side displays the denomination "ONE CENT" positioned prominently in the center. This text is encircled by a detailed wreath, which is crowned by a shield at the top and anchored by a bundle of arrows secured with a bow at the bottom.
