1870 Two Cent Piece AU

0.0000 troy oz 1870 Almost Unc

The 1870 United States two-cent piece represents a brief but fascinating chapter in American numismatic history. Struck in copper at the Philadelphia Mint, this denomination carries a design created by James Longacre. The obverse features a prominent, ornate shield draped with a wreath, set against a pair of crossed arrows. Arching above this central emblem is the famous patriotic motto, "IN GOD WE TRUST," while the year 1870 is anchored firmly at the bottom. On the reverse, a lush wreath encircles the bold denomination, which reads "2 CENTS." Around the outer rim, the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" are clearly inscribed. This particular specimen survives in About Uncirculated (AU) condition, also described as Extra Fine, meaning it retains much of its original detail and crispness from the day it was minted, allowing observers to appreciate the fine lines of the shield and the delicate leaves of the wreaths.
