The 1870 Two Cent Piece represents a fascinating chapter in United States coinage. Struck in copper at the Philadelphia Mint, this denomination carries a distinct aesthetic that sets it apart from more common modern pocket change. Even in Very Good condition, the essential elements of its intricate design remain visible to the curious observer. The obverse of the coin features a prominent central shield, which is elegantly framed by a leafy wreath and a pair of crossed arrows pointing outwards. Above this detailed shield, the legendary motto of the nation is displayed. Below the shield, the year 1870 is clearly struck, marking the coin's origin in the later years of this short-lived denomination's production run. On the reverse, the design shifts focus to the coin's face value. A large wreath wraps around the central inscription, which declares the denomination as 2 Cents.
