1872/1 Indian Octagonal 50 cent Gold MS-65 NGC (PL, BG-937)
This striking gold piece from 1872 showcases an unusual eight-sided shape, a departure from the traditional round format of most coinage. The obverse features a central Indian profile surrounded by a ring of small stars. On the reverse, the face value of the coin is displayed inside a decorative wreath. Struck in 0.900 fine gold, this tiny treasure contains 0.0242 troy ounces of precious metal. Although the total mintage for this issue remains unknown, this particular specimen has survived in extraordinary state, graded Mint State 65 (MS-65) with a prooflike finish that highlights its sharp details and reflective fields.
