0.9675 troy oz .900 1872 Almost Unc - 55 (PCGS)

In 1872, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of 251,850 twenty-dollar gold coins, known to enthusiasts as the Liberty Double Eagle. Struck without a mint mark, these massive pieces were composed of 90 percent gold, containing nearly a full troy ounce of the precious metal (0.9675 troy ounces). Today, finding an example that escaped the heavy circulation of the post-Civil War era is a remarkable discovery. This specific specimen survived the decades in outstanding condition, earning a certified grade of Almost Uncirculated 55 (AU-55). The preservation of its surfaces allows us to appreciate the intricate details of the engraving just as it appeared when it left the coining press in Pennsylvania. The obverse features the classic profile of Liberty, while the reverse displays the bold national heraldry, including the iconic motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the surrounding inscription "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA."
