In 1872, the frontier mint at Carson City, Nevada, struck a mere 26,900 of the twenty dollar Liberty gold double eagles. This low production makes surviving specimens highly prized by those who study the early output of the Western mints. This particular coin has been certified in About Uncirculated 58 (AU-58) condition, showing only minor wear from its brief time in circulation. Crafted from 0.900 fine gold, this heavy coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal. The obverse features the classic Liberty design, dated 1872. The reverse displays the heraldic eagle along with the national mottoes, "IN GOD WE TRUST" and "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA," alongside the denomination of "TWENTY D." and the distinctive "CC" mintmark that identifies its Carson City origin.
