1872 Indian Head Cent AG

0.0000 troy oz 1872 Almost Good

The 1872 Indian Head Cent represents a classic era of American copper coinage. Struck in Philadelphia with a metal composition of 95 percent copper, alongside a 5 percent blend of tin and zinc, this coin has survived for over a century. Even in an Almost Good state of preservation, the coin carries a distinct character shaped by its long journey through circulation. Designed by James B. Longacre, the obverse of the coin features a depiction of Liberty adorned in a traditional Native American feather headdress. The word LIBERTY is set within the band of the headdress, while the year 1872 is anchored at the bottom of the design. The reverse side displays the denomination ONE CENT boldly centered within a detailed wreath. A small shield rests at the very top of the wreath, while a bundle of arrows tied together with a ribbon bow sits at the bottom, completing a design that is highly regarded by enthusiasts of early United States minor coinage.
