In 1873, the Philadelphia Mint produced a limited run of just 55,200 gold quarter eagles. These 2.50 dollar denomination pieces were struck from 90 percent pure gold, containing 0.1209 troy ounces of the precious metal. This particular specimen survives in an exceptional About Uncirculated 58 state of preservation, displaying much of its original luster and detail from the era before 1933. The obverse features the classic Liberty design, while the reverse showcases the proud heraldic eagle.
