In 1873, the Philadelphia Mint struck this impressive twenty-dollar gold piece, a denomination often referred to as the Double Eagle. Containing nearly a full troy ounce of gold (specifically 0.9675 ounces), this coin represents a classic era of American coinage that spanned from 1850 to 1907. This particular specimen has survived in remarkable condition, certified by professional graders as Almost Uncirculated 58 (AU-58). The obverse of the coin showcases a profile of Liberty, her hair secured by a diadem decorated with pearls and inscribed with her name. On the reverse, designer James B. Longacre placed a majestic eagle with wings fully spread, bearing a protective shield upon its chest. Above the eagle, thirteen stars are arranged in an oval pattern beneath a halo of rays, surrounded by the legends indicating the nation of origin, the United States of America, and the face value of Twenty Dollars.
