1873 $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle Open 3 MS-61 PCGS

0.9675 troy oz .900 1873 PCGS

In 1873, the Philadelphia mint produced this impressive gold coin, which contains 0.9675 ounces of pure gold. As part of a series minted between 1850 and 1907, this twenty-dollar denomination showcases the artistry of James B. Longacre. It stands as a classic representative of America's pre-1933 gold coinage, struck with a purity of 0.900 gold. The front of the coin features a left-facing portrait of Liberty. Her hair is secured by a pearl-bordered diadem that clearly displays the inscription LIBERTY. Surrounding her profile are thirteen stars, representing the original colonies, with the date 1873 positioned at the bottom. On the reverse, a powerful eagle spreads its wings, shielding its breast with a decorated escutcheon. Above the bird, a halo of rays surrounds an oval of thirteen stars, accompanied by the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. The outer rim is inscribed with the issuing country, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the face value, TWENTY DOLLARS.
