In 1874, the United States minted a delicate gold coin that remains a fascinating study in American numismatic artistry. Struck in 0.900 fine gold with an actual precious metal weight of 0.048375 troy ounces, this one dollar denomination represents the pre-1933 era of circulating gold coinage.
