Struck in the late nineteenth century, this twenty dollar gold piece represents a fascinating era of American minting. Produced in 1874, the coin contains nearly a full troy ounce of gold, specifically 0.9675 troy ounces, with a purity of 0.900. It bears the distinctive "CC" mint mark, identifying its origin at the famous Carson City Mint, a facility deeply tied to the history of the American West. Out of an original mintage of 115,085 pieces, this specimen has survived to be certified in Almost Uncirculated 53 condition. The obverse features a left-facing portrait of Liberty, her hair bound by a band inscribed with her name. Thirteen stars encircle her image, representing the original colonies, with the date 1874 positioned at the bottom. The reverse showcases a detailed heraldic eagle holding a shield on its chest, with another arrangement of thirteen stars positioned above the bird. The design is completed by the surrounding inscriptions "United States of America" and the "Twenty D." denomination.
