1874-CC $20 Liberty Gold Double Eagle VF (Cleaned)

0.9675 troy oz .900 1874 Very Fine

In 1874, the United States Mint facility in Carson City produced this gold twenty-dollar piece. Struck with a purity of 0.900 gold, the coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal. This specimen survives today with Very Fine details, showing signs of having undergone a light cleaning over its long history. The obverse, designed by James B. Longacre, showcases a left-facing profile of Liberty. A band inscribed with the word "Liberty" rests in her hair, while thirteen stars encircle the portrait. The year 1874 is positioned beneath her image. On the reverse, Longacre's design presents a majestic heraldic eagle bearing a shield across its chest. A cluster of thirteen stars is positioned directly above the eagle. The legends surrounding the central image include "United States of America" along with the denomination, "Twenty D.", indicating its face value.
