1874 Indian Head Cent BU

0.0000 troy oz 1874 Brilliant Unc

The 1874 Indian Head Cent represents a fascinating era in United States copper coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this piece is composed of a traditional alloy containing 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent made of tin and zinc. It survives today in a brilliant uncirculated state, preserving the sharp details of its original engraving. On the obverse, the coin displays a detailed representation of Liberty wearing a traditional feathered headdress, with the word LIBERTY clearly inscribed across the band. The year 1874 is boldly struck at the bottom of the profile, surrounded by the legend UNITED STATES OF AMERICA. The reverse of the coin features a simple yet elegant design. The denomination ONE CENT is positioned at the center, framed by a detailed wreath that runs along the inner perimeter. This design, created by James B. Longacre, remains one of the most recognizable and beloved motifs in American numismatic history.
