In 1875, the Philadelphia Mint struck a run of 295,720 gold coins in the twenty dollar denomination. Today, surviving examples of these Liberty Gold Double Eagles offer a tangible look at the United States monetary system during the late nineteenth century. This particular specimen has been certified in Mint State 61 (MS-61) condition, indicating it has survived the decades with its original mint luster largely intact. Struck from 0.900 fine gold, this coin contains 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal. Because it was produced at the main Philadelphia facility, it bears no mint mark. The design features traditional American imagery, including the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" and the classic Latin phrase "E PLURIBUS UNUM" on its surface, representing the foundational ideals of the era.
