1875 Indian Head Cent Fine

0.0000 troy oz 1875 Fine

The 1875 Indian Head Cent represents a fascinating chapter in United States coinage. Struck in copper during the post-Civil War era, this particular coin has survived in Fine condition, showing honest wear from its time in circulation while retaining its essential design details. Produced at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin does not bear a mint mark, which is typical for the vast majority of issues in this long-running series. While the Indian Head cent series stretched from the pre-Civil War era all the way to 1909, only two specific issues in the entire run actually feature mint marks, which were placed on coins struck in San Francisco. The obverse and reverse of this one-cent piece feature classic American imagery and inscriptions. The face of the coin displays the year 1875, while the surrounding legends include the words UNITED STATES OF AMERICA and the denomination of ONE CENT. Examining these worn but legible inscriptions offers a direct connection to the everyday commerce of the late nineteenth century.
