In 1875, the San Francisco Mint produced a substantial run of 1,230,000 double eagles, each carrying a face value of twenty dollars. Struck from 90 percent pure gold, these impressive coins contain 0.9675 troy ounces of precious metal. This particular specimen has survived the decades in remarkable condition, earning a certified grade of Mint State 62 (MS-62). The obverse features the classic Liberty design, dated 1875. On the reverse, the coin displays the United States of America country name alongside the denomination, which is abbreviated as twenty d. The reverse also bears the San Francisco mint mark, a small S, indicating its West Coast origin. The national motto, in God we trust, is integrated into the design, reflecting the standard inscriptions of this pre-1933 American coinage era.
