During the latter decades of the nineteenth century, Canada's circulating coinage featured the portrait of Queen Victoria, who ruled from 1837 to 1901. These copper large cents, cataloged as KM-7, represent a classic era of Canadian numismatic history. The coins in this series were struck between 1876 and 1901, serving as a daily medium of exchange across the growing Dominion. The obverse of the coin displays a left-facing bust of Queen Victoria wearing a crown, surrounded by her royal title. On the reverse, the face value of one cent and the year of minting are positioned at the center, enclosed by a delicate beaded circle. A lush, stylized maple leaf wreath frames this central inscription, creating a design that is uniquely Canadian. These specimens survive in average circulated condition, showing the honest wear of pieces that passed through many hands over a century ago.
