In 1876, the Carson City Mint in Nevada produced a limited run of just 138,441 twenty-dollar gold pieces. Struck from 0.900 fine gold, each of these substantial coins contains nearly a full troy ounce of precious metal (0.9675 troy ounces). Today, finding an example from this historic Western minting facility in uncirculated condition is a notable event for numismatic enthusiasts. The obverse of this double eagle features the classic profile of Liberty, surrounded by stars with the date 1876 positioned below her portrait. The reverse displays the traditional heraldic eagle design, flanked by the distinctive 'CC' mintmark that identifies its origin in the high desert of Nevada.
