Produced at the Melbourne Mint in 1876, the coin is composed of 0.9167 fine gold, containing 0.2354 troy ounces of actual precious metal. Its survival in Brilliant Uncirculated condition allows modern observers to appreciate the crisp details of its design just as they appeared over a century ago. The obverse of the coin displays a left-facing portrait of a young Queen Victoria. This youthful depiction of the monarch is encircled by a traditional Latin inscription.
