0.0000 troy oz 1877 Very Good

In the realm of nineteenth century American coinage, the 1877 Indian Head Cent stands as an exceptionally famous issue. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin has a recorded mintage of just 852,500 pieces, making it one of the most sought after dates in the entire series. The coin is composed of an alloy containing 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent made of tin and zinc. The obverse features a depiction of Liberty adorned in a traditional Native American feather headdress. The word Liberty is inscribed upon the band of the headdress, while the country name, UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, and the date, 1877, encircle the central figure. On the reverse, the denomination ONE CENT is positioned at the center, surrounded by a lush wreath. At the top of the wreath sits a small shield, while a bundle of arrows tied with a ribbon bow rests at the bottom. This example survives in Very Good condition, offering a tangible look at a legendary copper issue from a bygone era.
