The Morgan Silver Dollar is a classic of American coinage, but some specimens carry a narrative that extends far beyond the mint. This particular silver coin, minted in San Francisco in 1890, boasts a connection to the legendary Redfield Hoard. Discovered behind a false wall, this massive accumulation contained roughly 400,000 silver dollars, preserved for decades and largely kept in exceptional, uncirculated condition. When the estate was settled at auction in 1976, these treasures entered the wider world of numismatics, earning the nickname Redfield Dollars among enthusiasts. Crafted from 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, the coin showcases the iconic obverse design of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap. The word Liberty is nestled in her hair band, surrounded by thirteen stars, the date, and the Latin motto E Pluribus Unum. On the reverse, a bald eagle holds arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing both strength and peace. Above the eagle, the phrase In God We Trust is inscribed, bordered by the country name and the one dollar denomination.
