1878-1904 Morgan Dollars MS-64 PCGS

0.7734 troy oz .900 MS-64 (PCGS)

The Morgan Dollar stands as one of the most recognized silver coins in American history. First struck in 1878, this series was born from the Bland-Allison Act, a piece of legislation designed to support the silver industry. These substantial coins were minted in massive quantities, totaling hundreds of millions of pieces over a production run that lasted until 1904. Depending on the year of issue, they were struck at various facilities, including Philadelphia, San Francisco, New Orleans, and Carson City. On the obverse, the coin displays a profile of Lady Liberty wearing a cap that symbolizes freedom. This depiction was modeled by Anna Willess Williams and designed by George T. Morgan. The reverse features a bald eagle holding an olive branch and arrows, a powerful symbol of peace and readiness. Surrounding the eagle are the inscriptions showing the face value of one dollar, alongside the words "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the motto "In God we trust." Each coin is composed of 90 percent fine silver alloyed with copper, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. With a diameter of 38.1 millimeters and a thickness of 3.1 millimeters, these coins have a commanding physical presence. This particular example is certified in Mint State 64 (MS-64) condition, indicating a well-preserved specimen that retains its original luster and sharp details from the era of its minting.
