Introduced under the authority of the Bland-Allison Act, the Morgan Dollar represents a classic era of American coinage. Minted from 1878 to 1904, each coin measures 38.1 mm in diameter and 3.1 mm in thickness. Crafted from a composition of 90 percent silver and 10 percent copper, these historic pieces contain 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver. The coins were struck at various locations, including Philadelphia, New Orleans, San Francisco, and Carson City, though millions of the original mintages were later melted down following the Pittman Act of 1918. The coin features the artistry of George T. Morgan, who placed his initial, a subtle letter M, on the design. On the obverse, a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty is modeled after Anna Willess Williams. The reverse depicts a bald eagle with wings spread wide, grasping an olive branch and arrows in its talons. Surrounding the eagle are the traditional inscriptions of UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, ONE DOLLAR, and the motto IN GOD WE TRUST. This particular specimen is certified in a well-preserved Mint State 65 condition, capturing the intricate details of the original engraving.
