1878-1904 Morgan Silver Dollar AU (Cleaned, Random Year)
Introduced in 1878, the Morgan Silver Dollar represents a landmark moment in American coinage. This series, which ran until 1904 and returned briefly in 1921, is celebrated for its distinctive artistic direction. The obverse presents a left-facing profile of Lady Liberty, modeled by Anna Willess Williams and designed by George T. Morgan. Breaking from traditional classical depictions, this was the first United States coin to feature a Lady Liberty with distinctly American features. Her cap is beautifully decorated with native agricultural elements, specifically wheat and cotton. The reverse of the coin showcases a bald eagle depicted with realistic, proportionally correct feathers. The eagle is shown clutching an olive branch of peace and a bundle of war arrows, symbolizing the dual nature of the nation's strength. Surrounding the eagle are the essential inscriptions "United States of America", "One Dollar", and the national motto "In God We Trust". Each of these silver dollars contains 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver with a purity of 0.900. These specific specimens are in Almost Uncirculated condition, showing light signs of past circulation and evidence of cleaning, which allows the intricate details of Morgan's engraving to remain clearly visible.
