Introduced in 1878, the Morgan Silver Dollar represents a landmark moment in American coinage. This series, which ran until 1904 and returned briefly in 1921, is celebrated for its distinctive artistic direction. The obverse presents a left-facing profile of Lady Liberty, modeled by Anna Willess Williams and designed by George T. Morgan. Breaking from traditional classical depictions, this was the first United States coin to feature a Lady Liberty with distinctly American features. Her cap is beautifully decorated with native agricultural elements, specifically wheat and cotton. The reverse of the coin showcases a bald eagle depicted with realistic, proportionally correct feathers. The eagle is shown clutching an olive branch of peace and a bundle of war arrows, symbolizing the dual nature of the nation's strength.
