1878-1904 Morgan Silver Dollar AU (Random Year)
The Morgan Silver Dollar stands as a monument to a pivotal era in American monetary history. Its creation was prompted by the Bland-Allison Act of February 1878, a legislative milestone that restored silver's status as legal tender. This came after the Coinage Act of 1873 had previously brought silver dollar production to a complete halt. Each of these United States Mint issues contains 0.7734 ounces of pure silver, with a composition of 90 percent silver. On the obverse, a left-facing profile of Liberty graces the coin. George T. Morgan designed this famous portrait, choosing Anna Willess Williams as his model. The reverse showcases a bald eagle holding an olive branch and arrows in its talons. Surrounding the eagle are the traditional inscriptions confirming the country of origin as the United States of America, the face value of One Dollar, and the national motto, In God We Trust. These particular coins are preserved in Almost Uncirculated condition, meaning they show only minor traces of wear while keeping the majority of their original mint luster. Because these pieces are selected from a range of dates spanning 1878 to 1904, each one represents a unique window into the late nineteenth and early twentieth centuries.
