Between 1878 and 1904, the United States minted a silver coin that would become a true icon of American coinage. Designed by George T. Morgan, this dollar contains 0.7734 troy ounces of 90 percent pure silver. It represents a significant departure from previous American coinage traditions, as it was the very first United States coin to depict Lady Liberty using an American woman as the model. Anna Willess Williams provided the likeness for this famous left-facing profile. On the obverse, Liberty wears a cap decorated with agricultural elements, specifically cotton and wheat. The reverse presents a powerful bald eagle holding a bundle of arrows alongside an olive branch. Surrounding this central image are the inscriptions "United States of America", "One Dollar", and the national motto "In God We Trust".
