1878-1904 Morgan Silver Dollar Good (Random Year)
The Morgan Silver Dollar stands as a monument to a turbulent era in American monetary history. Its creation in 1878 was prompted by the Bland-Allison Act, a pivotal piece of legislation passed in February of that year. This act effectively revived silver as a form of legal tender in the United States, reversing a previous halt in silver dollar production that had been mandated by the Coinage Act of 1873. Under the new law, the United States Treasury was obligated to purchase silver bullion specifically to be minted into these impressive coins. On the obverse of the coin, a left-facing profile of Liberty captures the eye. This particular representation of Liberty was modeled by Anna Willess Williams and designed by George T. Morgan. The reverse of the coin presents a powerful bald eagle clutching both an olive branch and arrows, symbolizing a nation prepared for both peace and defense. The reverse also displays the traditional inscriptions, including "United States of America", "One Dollar", and the motto "In God We Trust". Each of these historical pieces contains 0.7734 troy ounces of 90 percent pure silver. Having survived decades of circulation, these coins are in Good condition, showing honest signs of wear that tell the story of their journey through daily commerce from the late nineteenth century into the early twentieth century.
