Introduced in the late nineteenth century, this silver dollar represents a distinct shift in American coinage imagery. The obverse displays a left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty, created by George T. Morgan. In a departure from traditional European-style depictions, Morgan chose Anna Willess Williams as his model to give Liberty a uniquely American appearance. Her cap is decorated with native agricultural elements, specifically cotton and wheat, symbolizing the nation's bounty. The reverse of the coin presents a bald eagle with realistically proportioned feathers. The bird is depicted grasping an olive branch of peace alongside a bundle of arrows, representing strength. Surrounding the eagle are the inscriptions "United States of America," "One Dollar," and the national motto "In God We Trust." These particular silver pieces, struck during the primary production run spanning 1878 to 1904, are in lightly circulated condition and have been cleaned. Each coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of pure silver and may still exhibit subtle traces of its original mint luster.
