The year 1878 marked the beginning of a legendary chapter in American currency with the introduction of the Morgan Dollar. These silver coins circulated widely as everyday money for about eight decades, becoming a familiar fixture of American commerce. This particular piece, minted during that inaugural year, carries the distinctive 'CC' mint mark of the Carson City Mint, a facility deeply tied to the silver rushes of the American West. The obverse design features a profile of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, which is adorned with a band inscribed with the word 'Liberty'. Surrounding her likeness are thirteen stars, the year of issue, and the Latin motto 'E Pluribus Unum'. Despite its heavily circulated Almost Good condition, the fundamental elements of this historic design remain recognizable. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted holding both an olive branch and arrows in its talons, symbolizing peace and readiness. The eagle is encircled by the inscriptions 'United States of America', 'One Dollar', and the national motto 'In God We Trust'.
