In 1878, the United States Mint embarked on a new era of silver coinage with the introduction of the Morgan Dollar. Among the most sought-after of these early issues are those struck at the Carson City Mint in Nevada, bearing the famous CC mint mark. This particular coin represents a fascinating survivor from that inaugural year of production, preserved in About Uncirculated condition. The obverse design presents a profile of Liberty, who wears a Phrygian cap decorated with native American agricultural elements, specifically wheat and cotton. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide, holding both an olive branch and arrows in its talons to represent peace and readiness. Legible inscriptions on the coin include the national motto, "In God we trust," along with "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and the denomination, "ONE DOLLAR." Struck from 0.900 fine silver, each of these historic coins contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal.
