In 1878, a new era of American coinage began with the introduction of the Morgan dollar. This particular specimen, struck at the historic Carson City Mint, represents the very first year of the celebrated series. Minted with 0.7734 troy ounces of silver at a purity of 0.900, this coin has survived in brilliant uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of its original strike. The obverse features a profile of Liberty wearing a Phrygian cap, her hair band inscribed with the word "Liberty." Encircling this central portrait are thirteen stars, the year 1878, and the classic Latin motto "E Pluribus Unum." On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted holding arrows and an olive branch, symbolizing both strength and peace. The eagle is surrounded by the inscriptions "United States of America" and "One Dollar," with the national motto "In God We Trust" positioned above. Just below the eagle, the famous "CC" mint mark identifies this silver dollar as a product of the frontier mint in Nevada.
