The year 1878 marked the debut of a legendary American silver coin series, and this particular specimen carries the famous CC mint mark of the Carson City Mint in Nevada. Struck from 0.900 fine silver, this coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. It represents a total mintage of 2,212,000 pieces produced by the frontier mint during that inaugural year, surviving today in Fine condition. The obverse design presents a left-facing profile of Liberty. She wears a Phrygian cap adorned with a band displaying her name. Surrounding her portrait are the Latin motto E Pluribus Unum, thirteen stars representing the original colonies, and the 1878 date of issue. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with its wings spread, clutching both an olive branch and arrows in its talons. The eagle is encircled by the inscriptions United States of America and the denomination One Dollar, along with the national motto In God We Trust.
