The year 1878 marked the beginning of a legendary chapter in American currency with the introduction of the Morgan Dollar. This particular silver coin, struck during that inaugural year, carries the highly recognizable 'CC' mint mark of the Carson City Mint in Nevada. For nearly eighty years, these silver dollars circulated as everyday currency, passing through countless hands during a transformative era of American history. On the obverse side, Liberty is depicted in profile facing left. She wears a Phrygian cap, with a hair band clearly displaying the word 'Liberty'. Surrounding her portrait are thirteen stars, the year of issue, and the classic Latin motto 'E Pluribus Unum'. The reverse side displays a bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping an olive branch and arrows in its talons. This side is framed by the inscriptions 'United States of America' and 'One Dollar', alongside the motto 'In God We Trust'. Struck from 0.900 fine silver, this coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. This specimen has survived the decades in remarkable condition, certified as Mint State 62 (MS-62), allowing modern observers to appreciate the crisp details of its original 19th-century design.
