The year 1878 marked the debut of a legendary American silver series. Among the most compelling examples from this inaugural year are those struck at the Nevada branch mint in Carson City, bearing the famous double-C mint mark on the reverse side, positioned just beneath the wreath. On the obverse, a left-facing portrait of Liberty wears a Phrygian cap inscribed with her name. Thirteen stars encircle the portrait, representing the original colonies that formed the nation, accompanied by the classic Latin motto meaning out of many, one. Crafted from 0.7734 troy ounces of fine silver, this coin has survived the decades in an exceptional state of preservation, earning a certified grade of Mint State 64 (MS-65). The reverse displays a bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping arrows and an olive branch in its talons to symbolize both strength and peace. Surrounding this central image are the inscriptions denoting the United States of America, the face value of One Dollar, and the national motto expressing trust in God.
