0.7734 troy oz .900 1878 Very Fine

The year 1878 marked the debut of a legendary American silver coin. This particular specimen, preserved in Very Fine condition, represents the inaugural year of the celebrated Morgan Dollar series. Struck in 0.900 fine silver, the coin contains 0.77344 ounces of precious metal, combining substantial physical weight with historic artistry. On the obverse side, a left-facing portrait of Liberty is depicted wearing a Phrygian cap. Her hair band is inscribed with the word "LIBERTY", a classic symbol of freedom. The reverse side showcases a heraldic bald eagle with its wings spread, grasping a bundle of arrows in one talon and an olive branch in the other, representing both strength and peace. Positioned on the reverse, just above the "ONE DOLLAR" denomination, are the distinctive "CC" letters. This mint mark indicates the coin was struck at the historic Carson City Mint in Nevada, a facility deeply tied to the silver booms of the nineteenth century. The reverse also displays the traditional national motto, "In God we trust."
