The year 1878 marked the beginning of a legendary era in United States coinage with the introduction of the Morgan Dollar. This particular specimen emerged from the Carson City Mint, a facility deeply tied to the silver booms of the American West. Bearing the famous "CC" mint mark, this coin represents the very first year of the iconic series, making it a key piece of nineteenth-century numismatic history. Struck in 90% silver with a precious metal content of 0.7734 troy ounces, the coin has survived the decades in an appealing circulated state. It has been officially certified in Extra Fine 45 condition, indicating that while it saw actual hand-to-hand use in the commerce of the late 1800s, it still retains much of its original detail and design definition. On the surfaces of this dollar, classic American imagery comes alive. The obverse features the left-facing portrait of Liberty surrounded by stars, the year 1878, and the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". The reverse displays an eagle with outstretched wings holding an olive branch and arrows, encircled by the inscriptions "UNITED STATES OF AMERICA" and "ONE DOLLAR", along with the national motto "IN GOD WE TRUST". The distinct "CC" mark is positioned just above the lower wreath, serving as a permanent signature of its Nevada origin.
