In 1878, the United States introduced a silver dollar design that would go on to circulate across the nation for around eight decades. This particular coin represents the very first year of the celebrated Morgan Dollar series, minted in the historic frontier town of Carson City, Nevada. Carrying the distinct 'CC' mint mark on its reverse, this piece contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, minted from a total production run of 2,212,000 pieces for that year. The obverse side presents a profile of Liberty, who wears a traditional Phrygian cap. Her headpiece is decorated with agricultural elements, specifically sprigs of wheat and cotton bolls, symbolizing the nation's fertile lands. The year 1878 is inscribed clearly at the bottom of the profile. On the reverse, a bald eagle is depicted with its wings spread wide. In its talons, the national bird holds both an olive branch of peace and a bundle of arrows, representing strength. Surrounding this central image are the inscriptions denoting the country of origin, United States of America, the denomination of One Dollar, and the motto In God We Trust.
