The 1878 Indian Head Cent represents a classic era in United States copper coinage. Struck at the Philadelphia Mint, this coin is composed of a durable alloy containing 95 percent copper, with the remaining 5 percent consisting of tin and zinc. It stands as a fascinating example of late nineteenth-century American currency, surviving today in Very Good condition. The obverse of the coin displays a distinct depiction of Liberty wearing an Native American feather headdress, surrounded by the country name and the date 1878.
