0.7734 troy oz .900 1878 Brilliant Unc

The year 1878 marked the beginning of a legendary era in American coinage with the introduction of the Morgan silver dollar. Minted in Philadelphia, these initial releases carry no mint mark, representing the very start of a design that would circulate as everyday currency for nearly eighty years. This specific specimen survives in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of its original striking. On the obverse, the profile of Liberty is depicted wearing a traditional Phrygian cap. The design is framed by thirteen stars, the date of issue, and the classic Latin motto, E Pluribus Unum. The word Liberty is also inscribed upon her hair band. The reverse displays a bald eagle holding an olive branch and arrows. Above the eagle, the motto In God We Trust is visible, while the inscriptions United States of America and One Dollar encircle the central image. This coin contains 0.7734 troy ounces of silver, minted with a purity of 0.900, making it a heavy and tactile piece of late nineteenth-century history.
