In 1878, the United States introduced a silver coin that would become a cornerstone of American currency for nearly eight decades. This initial year of the Morgan Dollar series brought with it fascinating design variations, including the distinctive tailfeather count on the reverse eagle. Minted in Philadelphia, these specific coins carry no mint mark, leaving the focus entirely on the intricate artistry of the obverse and reverse. The front of the coin presents a profile of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap, her hair band inscribed with the word "LIBERTY". Encircling her portrait are thirteen stars, the year 1878, and the Latin motto "E PLURIBUS UNUM". On the reverse, a bald eagle holds both arrows and an olive branch in its talons.
