The year 1878 marked the debut of one of America's most iconic silver coins, the Morgan Dollar. Minted in Philadelphia, this particular specimen is in Brilliant Uncirculated condition, preserving the crisp details of its original striking. Because it was produced at the main United States Mint facility in Philadelphia, it carries no mint mark, a traditional feature of these early issues. On the obverse, the design presents a profile of Liberty adorned with a Phrygian cap. This classic representation is surrounded by thirteen stars, the date 1878, and the inscriptions "Liberty" and "E Pluribus Unum". The coin is struck from 0.900 fine silver, containing 0.7734 troy ounces of precious metal. The reverse depicts a bald eagle with its wings spread, clutching both an olive branch and arrows in its talons. Surrounding the national bird are the inscriptions "United States of America", "One Dollar", and the motto "In God We Trust". This first-year issue belongs to a legendary series that circulated actively in American commerce for about 80 years, leaving an indelible mark on the nation's monetary history.
