The year 1878 marked the debut of a legendary American silver coin, authorized under the Bland-Allison Act. Crafted by designer George T. Morgan, this initial release features a distinct reverse design depicting a bald eagle with eight tail feathers, a detail that was quickly altered in subsequent production runs. Minted at the Philadelphia facility without a mint mark, this specific variety had a total production run of 749,500 pieces. The obverse of the coin showcases a classic left-facing portrait of Lady Liberty, framed by the Latin motto E PLURIBUS UNUM and the 1878 date. On the reverse, the eagle holds an olive branch and arrows, accompanied by the inscription IN GOD WE TRUST. This particular specimen has been graded Mint State 63 (MS-63), showcasing beautiful toning that highlights its historic details. Struck from 0.900 fine silver, the coin has a diameter of 38.1 mm and contains 0.7734 troy ounces of pure precious metal.
